Brewing

Brewing is a fun tradeskill to learn and can be easy until you get to the last item.  You can make non-alcoholic stat drinks to replace water flasks and Fizzlecutter’s Forumla 5000s.  The largest drawback of brewing is that many combines can only be done in a brew barrel (quite common in cities).  There is a collapsed distillery that gnomes can make though tinkering but they can be expensive and only have 4 slots which limits what you can make.

Drinking alcohol will affect your states and vision but will raise your alcohol tolerance – this allows you more positive effects before the negative effects.  Alcohol tolerance maxes out at 200 and at this level you can still get drunk.

With brewing you can also make dyes and while they are not overly popular they can still sell from time to time in the bazaar.  You can also make tempers, oils, tanning solutions, and so on.

If you are a foraging race or class then save up your pods of water – 4 of those plus one bottle in a distillery will give you a flask of water – this trivials at 21.

  • Snake Scales – 21
    • 1 water flask + 1 bottle + 1 snake scales
    • All can be bought from merchants – Yoen Ormard, Tasec Dreeng, and Duath Untez in Abysmal sea sells them for starters
  • Short Beer – 31
    • 1 barley + 1 hops + 1 malt + 1 cask (returned on failure) in a brew barrel or collapsed distillery
    • You can save them for vodka later but you can buy these at some merchants, too.
  • Lemonade (+3 STR, +3 AGI) – 54
    • 1 water flask + 1 cup of sugar + 1 lemon
    • All merchant bought (Abysmal sea)
    • Your first stat drink
  • Chocolate Milk – 71
    • 1 bottle of milk + 1 chocolate
    • All merchant bought (Abysmal sea is your best bet)
  • Semi-Popular item – Combine Acrylia Temper (used in smithing) – 95
    • Not recommended for skillups
    • 1 vial of clear mana (enchanters) + 1 essence of wind + 1 crushed windstone (2 windstones in a mortar & pestle or mixing bowl)
    • These can be expensive – none of the components are merchant bought and can be expensive to buy in the bazaar
  • Optional Step:  Brandy – 122
    • Vegetables are foraged in most zones, bought in the bazaar, or made (lettuce, carrot, turnip in a mixing bowl – no fail trivial at 15)
    • Spices + Vegetables + 2 red wine + shot glass
    • Can be saved to make sherry as your next step (see below)
  • Vodka – 135
    • You can skip this and go to 2x Brewed 2x Stout Dwarven ale (below) if you do not want to worry about vegetables.
    • Vegetables can be foraged in most zones, bought in the bazaar, or made (lettuce, carrot, turnip in a mixing bowl – no fail trivial at 15)
    • Water flask + bottle + vegetables + 2 short beers
    • Also used in some high end brewing
  • Semi-Popular item – Coldain Velium Temper – 136

    • Yes, it is a big step but components are all available in PoK (except the short beer – you can stock up on that in Abysmal sea)and cheap

    • Also returns 1 cask & 2 bottles on success

  • Kaladim Constitutionals – 335
    • +5 save vs. disease, cold, magic, and poison
    • Fungus & mushroom are ground spawns at the farm in Kaladim.  If you are KOS, start a low level toon with bags.  Most of the time you will get 9 of each and it is about a 5 minute respawn cycle.
    • Celestial essence + cork + bottle + soda water (water + soda in a brew barrel – trivial at 58) + strange dark fungus + underfoot mushroom + corking device (tinkered) + fermented yarrow (water flask  yarrow in a brew barrel – yields 6, trivial at 74)
    • Yields 4
