Fletching

Fletching is easily the second easiest tradeskill to get to 200 but then it becomes extremely difficult, time consuming, and expensive.  Most melee classes will benefit from crafted arrows since they give better range and damage than store bought.  Most combines for arrows yields 5 arrows (some higher level ones give 10 per combine) and the arrows stack to 100.  With fletching you can also make bows (not recommended for skill-ups, though), and you can also make furniture if you have the House of Thule expansion.

Fletching arrows, in a nutshell, is just combining 4 components (a point, a shaft, a fletch, and a nick) in a fletching kit.  When making combines, you only have to worry about one component being non-trivial so you can leave the rest at the lowest (and cheapest) level. These modifiers are based on basic arrows, damage of 1 and range of 50.  Each component will affect the arrow’s damage and/or range. Here is a simple chat that should help you get to 202 in no time.

Important note:  do not use silver tipped points to skill up – they are VERY expensive.  After bone vane go to ceramic vane (slightly cheaper than steel shafts but same trivial level – 202).

Fletching from 202 to 300 is VERY DIFFICULT and time consuming and requires a lot of subcombines from other tradeskills – some have high trivial levels. This is why I recommend fletching last. There are many arrows at this level and I recommend looking them over to see if any have drops in zones you normally hunt in to lessen the cost of skilling up in fletching. Here are some suggestions:

  • Inured Recurve Box Strong – 204
    • Stacks to 100
    • Clump of wax + 2 flawless silk
  • Elegant Recurve Bow String – 224
    • Stacks to 100
    • Clump of wax + exquisite silk
  • Stalwart Recurve Bow String – 244
    • Stacks to 100
    • Clump of wax + 2 immaculate silks (dropped or bought in the bazaar)
    • Used to make Stalwart Recurve Bow (trivial 495)
  • Glorious Recurve Bow String- 258
    • Extravagant is also this level but the silks are very expensive in the bazaar
    • Stacks to 100
    • Clump of wax + 2 exotic silk
  • Elegant Staff – 262
    • Stacks to 10
    • Darkwood Bow staff (expensive) + planing tool + exquisite silk (dropped or bought in the bazaar)
    • Used in 2 400+ skill fletching combines
  • Stalwart Staff – 271
    • Stacks to 10
    • Darkwood bow staff (expensive) + planing tool + immaculate silk (dropped or bought in the bazaar)
    • Used in 2 400+ level fletching combines
  • Glorious Staff – 284
    • Stacks to 10
    • Darkwood bow staff + planing tool + exotic silk (dropped or bought in the bazaar)
    • Used in a few 500+ level smithing and fletching combines
  • 284+ – still researching the easiest way
  • Wood Elf Cultural (Wood Elves only in a Feir’Dal fletching kit)
    • To make the Feir’Dal fletching kit(again, wood elves only) combine in a Feir’Dal forge (in Kelethin):
      • Water flask + container base mold + container lid mold + hinge mold + small brick of mithril
      • Trivial at 163
    • Mithril Champion Arrows – yields 10 – 335
      • Small groove nocks
      • Mithril Bundled Arrow Shafts
        • Water flask + file + arrow shaft mold + large brick of mithril in a Feir’Dal Forge
        • Yields 2, trivial at 42
      • Mithril Arrow Heads
        • Water flask + file + small brick of mithril in a Feir’Dal forge
        • Yields 2, trivial at 42
      • Mithril Fletchings
        • You will need a mithril working knife
          • Water flask + hilt mold + dagger blade mold + small brick of mithril in a Feir’Dal forge
          • Trivial at 42
        • Mithril working knife + small brick of mithril in a  Feir’Dal forge
        • Yields 2, trivial at 34
